I’m sure I’m not the only one to spend time serving their own agricultural vehicles, but I think I’ve finally quit for good. Why did I start in the first place though, and why do so many in our field (ha ha!) The reasons are usually thus; 1. We are way too mean to pay good money to mechanics when we are quite able to do the job ourselves.
2. My Land Rover is a work horse, and doesn’t need babying.
3. I kind of like doing it. Although I kind liked doing it way more at the start than I do now.
4. All my mates do it and I wanted to avoid the “cop out” ribbing.
Well no more I think. We are all business owners and as such we should think about the best use of our time. It’s almost always better to spend time making money than saving money, and coupled that we should spend more time doing things that we are better at.
So write a list of all things things you do in a normal month. Mark each task with a number from one to ten as to good you are at it. Then mark again one to ten as to how much money it makes or saves. Then if fixing your own vehicle is in the top ten across both marks (it won’t be)- continue to service it. When you find it’s not, contact a local Land Rover servicing specialist (we used these guys – Fuel Solutions Australia) and relax.
Now get back to work! Doing only the high value tasks that scored the highest!
